Digital teaching setup
Online teaching will rule the next semester. This asks a lot of all of us but we hope to be able to run a more or less normal course. You find
- information for students at the university of Bonn and
- general information of the computer science department.
Notice that you do not need any new account for any of the following. For moodle, please use your computer science credentials. In case of problems, please contact me.
To run the digital teaching successfully we will proceed as follows:
- Moodle
- To login into the course' moodle use your Bonn computer science account credentials.
- Check whether you have access to the moodle(BN) and register for the course there!
- If not, please try to solve the problem by applying for a computer science account. See the section on Student Account Creation Requests on the system group's page Current information about the GSG in times of COVID-19. The system group's helpdesk may help you with possible trouble shootings.
- Moodle provides an authenticated platform with an authenticated connection to BigBlueButton.
- It serves as a basis for lecture, exercise cycle and tutorial.
- To login into the course' moodle use your Bonn computer science account credentials.
- Lectures
- Before the lectures, to ease your comprehension, check out the literature.
- Lectures will be performed in a BigBlueButton room.
- For our international students and as a guard in case of internet problems, we want to record these sessions.
- Recordings are available online inside the authenticated moodle.
- If you do object to your participation in a session being recorded, please use the recordings.
- Exercise cycle
- We will distribute weekly exercises by sciebo and inside the moodle.
- Solve the exercises with your fellow students in digital study groups. Use mailing list, chat and the free room to get in contact.
- Write up your solution individually. (That is: no group solutions!) Make sure that your final PDF is a suitably small file, around 2 MB or less is fine.
- Upload your solution PDF in the moodle. Mind that there always is a deadline.
- Our tutor will correct your solutions digitally and return them in the moodle.
- Your exercise grades will also be visible there.
- Tutorial
- This is the right place to ask questions concerning the current assignment or lecture.
- We expect that each of you presents at least one solution in the tutorial.
- So, prepare yourself for the tutorial ---it is only for you---:
- Which questions of Course, Exercises and Everything do you want to discuss?
- Which exercises do you want to discuss?
- Which solution do you want to present?
- The tutorials will be performed in a BigBlueButton room.
- There will be no recordings.
- Mailing list, chat and free room
- You can have further discussions via
- the mailing list or
- the discussion forum inside the moodle or
- this free BigBlueButton room.
- You can have further discussions via
- Via this sciebo folder we circulate slides and exercises.
- Optionally, you can have your own sciebo based on a Uni-ID,
- add this folder to your own sciebo and
- a small app is available to sync your machine with that.
Keep fingers crossed that the technical foundations work well.
PS: We do not use eCampus to ease life of our international students. You can still sign up to have the course in your list. There is a link pointing here.
